Chapter 165: In terror

"Diego, you have your money. You don't need them anymore."

"I'll decide what I need. Until I'm out of the country, your precious friend and my sister stay where they're at," he snapped.

My shoulders tightened as my entire body shook. He was making me so angry but there wasn't a thing I could say about it. He was a criminal, of course he wouldn't let them go. But what he didn't know was that Micky was outside waiting to follow him.

A thud in the backyard caught both of our attentions as I whipped my head toward the back door, praying that it wasn't Drake. I didn't want Diego to see him and do something rash. But when I turned to look at Diego, he looked spooked and hiked the bags onto his shoulders.

"If anyone follows me, Dakota and luis are dead. One call to mother dearest and a bullet gets lodged between their eyes." Then he rushed out of the living room and headed for the front door.

When the click echoed through the house, I let out a breath and allowed my emotions to run. Tears bubbled in my eyes as I let out a sob, covering my mouth. That was so intense and I couldn't stop wondering if he was going to kill me just because.

The roar of his truck echoed inside for a split second and then he was gone. I knew Micky would be hot on his trail and my adrenaline still coursed through me. I jumped up and pulled the wire off, nearly tearing my shirt as I tugged and pulled. Tears still blurred my vision as I tried to calm down. Then the front door opened again and I had a moment of panic consume my chest before Drake's face came into view.

He ran to me and pulled me into his arms as I collapsed against his chest, lightly sobbing. The fear and panic melted away the longer I was in his arms, but when I peered over at Aunt Rose, she had a confused look on her face as she stared toward the back door.

"Are you good?" Drake asked as he leaned back and framed my face, checking me out.

I nodded. "I'm okay," I sighed.

The back door flew open as I screamed and jumped into Drake's arms. He went into protective mode and blocked me from the intruder.

"Damn it, Dakota, get off of me!"

When I heard Luis's voice, I lunged away from Drake, jumped over the chair, and ran right into my best friend's arms. I didn't care that my rib cage throbbed with pain from my actions, I needed to hug my best friend.

He hugged me back so hard my cheek smashed against his chest.

"What the hell?" Drake asked as he approached Dakota, giving her a once over. "Where did you guys come from?"

"The nastiest place on earth," luis replied, scrunching his nose. "They are horrible house keepers."

I snorted out a laugh as I stepped back. It was surreal to see them both standing in our living room. How did they get free? What is happening?!

But then luis turned to me and his face dropped. "Are you okay, sweetie? Heidi's bitch ass pulled me away just as Diego finished... hurting you."

I grabbed my ribs. "I'm okay. Are you okay?!" I was still trying to gather my thoughts at this turn of events. Micky was on Diego's trail, but we no longer needed to make sure these two were okay.

"What happened?" Drake inquired.

Luis blew out a breath and instantly went back to diva mode.

"What happened? What happened?!" Luis shrieked. "Your crazy fucking family kidnapped me; that's what happened! Then they tied me up to the wall next to Dakota tied up on the grossest looking mattress I've ever seen in my life."

"They want to know how we got out, Pierre," Dakota told him.

Luis looked between all of us before he giggled. "Oh, that... Yeah, that's the best part anyway. Okay, so they clearly thought a simple rope was going to keep me hostage. Pa-lease! I've been tied up more than a calf at a rodeo. I know how to get out of them. Once I knew Diego was leaving, I took that time to get free of my restraints. Mommy-dearest had her back to me as I grabbed a metal pipe they had lying on the floor. Which by the way... is super fucking weird, right?"

I let out a strangled laugh as I shook my head. Leave it to luis to stretch out a story with his theatrics. God, I'm so glad he was okay. My gaze turned to Aunt Rose as she cocked her head at him, studying him with a smile on her lips.

"So I went up behind her and whacked her. The dumb bitch went down like a sack of potatoes." His gaze turned to Drake.

"Oops, sorry, D-Man." We all laughed as he continued. "Anyway, so I'm sitting there waiting for our Uber to arrive when I see a fruit bar across the street. They have the best damn cherry slushies I've ever had." He stretched out a plastic cup toward me as I shook my head and laughed. Did he have that the entire time? "Suit yourself, Dakota didn't want any either."

He put the drink to his mouth and slurped the crimson red liquid through the straw, clearly unaffected by anything that had happened to him. It was as if this was any normal day for him.

"Just like that? You hit my mother over the head and walked out?" Drake asked. "Nothing else happened?"

"Well shit, Drake," luis said with a giggle, "They didn't have their way with me if that's what you're asking, but I could use a release. Wanna help me out with that, big boy? It was your family who did this, it's only fair that you-"

Aunt Rose walked straight up to luis, making him stop talking immediately. She studied him for a long moment before she took the slushie from his hand and held them together.

"You have the kindest heart I've ever seen, young man. You've been a wonderful friend to lynn and she's lucky to have you."

His cheeks turned pink as he peered over at me. "Well yeah, Lynn's the shit, ma'am. I'm the lucky one to have her."

Aunt Rose patted his cheek. "And that's why she's so lucky to have you. I'm Aunt Rose. I think we're going to be good friends, luis."

He chuckled as he stared deep into her eyes. "Who is this fabulous person, lynn?"

Now I was chuckling. "This is my Aunt Rose. Rose Tuffin."

"Mmm, a cougar with money." Luis wrapped his arm around her shoulder. "Are you looking for a young buck to keep you company?"

I cried and laughed at the same time, completely thrilled and overwhelmed that they were back. Luis was completely unphased and I was so glad to have him back, but then my gaze moved to Dakota. She was standing away from everyone with her arms crossed over her chest, looking like someone just ran over her puppy. Drake walked over to her and I stayed back, letting siblings get reacquainted as I stepped up to luis and Aunt Rose. Tonight was shaping up to be one of the best and nothing could ruin it.
