Chapter 159: Been sued

DRAKE'S POV

I paced back and forth in my cell with thoughts of punching Noah's face in. His hands were on lynn as fear swam through her gaze. It wasn't something I'd forget anytime soon and a jail cell wouldn't stop me from pounding his stupid face in again. But the longer I paced here with no answers, the longer I wondered if lynn was okay.

If I knew my girl as much as I thought I did, she'd be running around trying to figure out how to get me out. The pricks still hadn't given me my one phone call yet and I had a feeling they were dragging their feet. I hadn't been in jail since I was seventeen years old, what could make them hold me this long without answers?

A guard walked by and I rushed to the bars. "Sir! Do I get my phone call yet?"

He snickered at me. "Not yet, pal. The judge is working on your extradition as we speak. No phone calls until she does that."

Alarm bells went off in my head. Extradition?! No, no, no, this was unacceptable.

"Extradition for what? Where?"

He blew out an annoyed breath as he turned to me. "Looks like you had an aggravated assault charge you never dealt with back in Chicago. You're being extradited there to take care of it." Then he walked away without another word.

I sank back into my cell and slumped down on the metal bench. Those charges were supposed to have been dealt with. I paid a fine and they let me walk out. I suppose if they sent me a letter about it I wouldn't have received it; hard to get a letter when I was bouncing around from one couch to the next. Shit! I really needed that phone call.

The longer I sat there, the longer I became restless. I was completely helpless in here and was about to go stir crazy. There hadn't been a single officer or sound for the last hour. They sure liked to take their sweet time, didn't they? Then I heard the creak of the jail door and ran to the bars, peering out to find an officer walking toward me.

"Sir!" I called out again. "Can I please have my one phone call?" I needed to call lynn and check on her, and I really needed her to make a phone call I couldn't. Piper, my guy I had help me with Lynn's family, didn't accept collect calls from a jail. She would be my only hope to get ahold of him and clear my name.

"Alright, you can have your phone call now. Step away from the bars."

I did as he asked before he unlocked my cell. He led me toward the phones down the hallway and I called Lynn's number as fast as my fingers could punch them in. It rang and rang and rang and then I heard her voice.

"Drake?!"

I sighed. "Hey baby."

"Oh my God, what's going on? They won't tell me a thing and no bail has been set for you."

"I know, baby, I need you to listen very carefully. I need you to call a man named Piper," I instructed before I gave her the number, "He'll know how to get me out of this mess. A bail hasn't been set because I have to be extradited to Chicago to face some aggravated assault charges from when I was a kid."

"What?! How can they do that? You were a minor! How has this not been taken care of since?"

"I don't know." And I truly didn't. I was in the dark as much as she was. "All I know is that I'll probably be taken to Chicago after they charge me with these charges. Call that guy, lynn, he's the only one who can get me out of this."

"Alright, times up," the officer stated as he walked toward me.

"Lynn, I love you. This is all going to blow over. I don't know where..." The line went dead before I could tell her to be safe and not to go home alone. I didn't know where Noah was or what he was capable of. The guy attacked her in a busy restaurant where the two arresting officers were also eating breakfast. It was obvious the guy didn't care where he was. I hated being locked up. Lynn needed me and I couldn't protect her from in here.

The officer led me back to my cell, locking me in before he said, "The judge is finalizing your case. Looks like you're going to face both charges in Chicago being that this is your second offense. You'll be extradited back to Chicago in one hour. Don't get comfortable."

When he walked away, I leaned forward and cradled my head in my hands. This couldn't be fucking happening right now. I hadn't been back to Chicago since I was eighteen years old and never planned on going back ever again. I just hoped lynn could get a hold of Piper before this all happens. I needed to get the fuck out of here.

Another hour went by and they still hadn't come and told me a fucking thing. My anger was about to explode. The longer I sat in here, the longer Molly was in danger. I just hoped she was with luis and Lane. They'd protect her until I could get out.

The jail door finally creaked open again as an officer came back to my cell and unlocked it.

"You've got a phone call.

It's your attorney."

My attorney? I hoped like hell that it was Piper calling. That, or lynn actually did hire an attorney. Either way, I hoped it was good news. I couldn't stay here for a second longer.

He led me to his desk instead as I picked up the phone and he hit the flashing button. Then he stepped away to give me some privacy.

"Hello?" I answered.

A deep chuckle came through the phone as my blood ran cold. I knew that chuckle. Diego.

"Well, well, well, looks like you're locked up, brother. I wonder who could have planned all of this. You still underestimate me and that hurts."

"Diego, when I get out of here," I growled into the phone so the officer couldn't hear me if he were eavesdropping around the corner.

Diego laughed. 'What are you going to do? There is literally nothing you can do, Drake. You'll be extradited to Chicago and I'll be here... where lynn will be all alone."

"You stay the fuck away from lynn. I'll fucking kill you if you lay a finger on her, Diego!"

I glanced over my shoulder and half expected the officer to come after my outburst but he was still gone. Thank God.

My nerves were all over the place. Lynn was out there alone and I couldn't do a damn thing about it. When Diego made a threat, he followed through. Always. I felt like throwing up.

"I think I might swing by and pay her a visit tonight. You'll be halfway across the country and I'll be here to keep her warm. Mom and Dakota send their regards."

My teeth ground together as I squeezed the phone. "What the fuck do you want, Diego?" I knew there was something he wanted from me otherwise he wouldn't be doing this.

Everything he did was for his gain.

He chuckled. "I want what you stole from me, brother. It was supposed to be me that met Kristoph. I was supposed to be the one with this fancy life and a fat bank account. Instead, I picked up your crumbs in Chicago and everyone forgot about me."

I recalled the exact event he was talking about. We both attended the audition with Kristoph, but I was the only one who could perform. "Diego, it wasn't my fault that you couldn't keep it up long enough to perform." I grinned, knowing I was getting under his skin. "Your life went to shit because you allowed it to. The only blame you should be putting on anyone is yourself. Don't blame me for your fucked up life."

"Oh, but I do, brother. You left us. You left all of us and never looked back. You're going to pay for that and I'm going to start by destroying you."

"So the case against me from you and Jimmy is still happening? On what grounds, fucker?" I seethed into the phone. If he was willing to talk, I was willing to drag it all out of him.

He laughed. "Oh, that was just a bluff. I only needed Jimmy to get your personal files and a nice chunk of change. There's no legal action against you regarding XXX Studios. At least, not yet. You really did ditch out on your contract, but I have nothing to do with any of that. I got what I needed."

I fucking knew it. I knew in my gut that Diego didn't have shit on me enough to sue me. This was all just a ploy and I fell right into his stupid little trap.

"You're the one who put me here then, huh? You and Noah?"

"Yeah, that was awesome. Noah is such a sucker. Another pawn in my game to get money. He was all too happy to fork up the funds. All I had to do was promise him lynn and he was frothing at the mouth. It was his idea to go to the restaurant this morning, though."

My hand balled into a fist as I saw red. My own brother was trying to destroy me and I didn't even see it coming. I was looking in all the wrong places, as he clearly wanted, and now I was fucked. Literally. I was stuck in here and would be extradited to Chicago while lynn was all alone, unguarded against Diego and his plans.

"I'm going to say this again, Diego, if you lay a finger on Molly it will be the last thing you ever fucking do. You think I fucked up your life back in Chicago when we were kids, you have no idea what I'm capable of as an adult."

"I'm looking forward to it, brother." He chuckled deeply into the phone before he hung up on me.

I slammed the phone down just as the officer came back in. I was in pure panic and begged for his help.

"Officer, that wasn't my attorney at all. That was my brother. He's going to harm my girlfriend. Please, you have to send a squad over to my place. She's in danger."

"Yeah, yeah, yeah." He waved me off before he took my arm and led me back to my cell. "Your transport back to Chicago will be here in twenty minutes."

He shoved me in and locked the cell again as I ran to the bars. "Please!! You don't understand! My girlfriend's in danger!"

He continued down the hallway until he disappeared through the jail doors, slamming it shut behind him as I was plunged back into silence. Fuck!! I shook the bars and screamed as loud as I could. Lynn. She was all I could think about and I couldn't do a fucking thing to protect her.

I slumped down the bars and sat on the cold concrete, cradling my head in my hands as I cried. Diego better be messing with me because if anything happened to her while I was in here, he'd fucking die. I'd go to prison for the rest of my life if it meant he couldn't harm her or anyone else ever again.
