Chapter 8
1403words
"What could I possibly have for you? I'm a nobody, Roger. Nobody." I shout at him.
"You were everything that I needed in my life, my sweet Angel." He steps forward slowly, covering the distance between us.
Well, you better back off or else...
Or else what? You're gonna call the police? Or you're going to run away just like the last time you did.
He steps forward instantly, grabbing my arm so hard I could almost feel each one of my nerves getting pressed.
"Do you really think you would fly your way to California like that?" What? Was I not good enough for you?
"You were a creepy bastard, that's what you were!"
I knee him in the groin and I run back towards the door. I hold the door handle, trying to open them, but they are locked from the inside.
I scream for someone to help me, continuously looking back if he recovered from the knee-kicking pain.
I try to go the other way, but he instantly catches up to me. Roger pushes me onto the wall, grabs my neck, choking me.
"If you will not be mine, I won't let you be anyone else's. You got that, you little sh*t?"
I black out as his voice goes away. My vision blurs as I lose control over my body.
"This is it. I will die like this, this f*cking sad death."
--------------
My eyes flutter constantly as I feel the soft pair of lips on mine filling my lungs with air.
I try to breathe but I could still feel the blockage in my throat. The lips set on mine once again.
Every time he was filling me with oxygen trying to revive me from this condition, my eyes works like they used to.
I look at the ceiling above me as I see a pair of hair flock.
"You...y..You don't have to..."
My words tremble as I try to speak to the stranger helping me. I pass out again.
-------------
I force all the strength that was left in me and I try to sit up. My head starts paining like I've been hit by a truck. I look at my hands, which are still a little blurry, as I move my eyes around the room. I see two figures standing right next to each other.
"she's going to be fine."
"Are you sure, Doctor?"
I could hear some noises, and I knew they were talking about me.
"Yes." although, I would recommend her to go for a full body check-up.
"Can you tell what caused her to pass out like that?"
"I..Uh...," Listen, Ethan..
ETHAN?!
"The way you found her seems more like a situation, which includes the police."
"Are you saying she was attacked?"
"N...No.. They can't know." I remind myself.
"Where..am I?" My voice would have barely reached their ears as I look at both of them, still trying to figure out who is who.
The figures shake hands and one of them whispers something into the other's ear and leaves the room.
He shoves his hands in his pockets and walks towards me.
Ethan pours a glass of water and gives it to me before sitting down next to me.
I take the glass with both my hands as I realised I wasn't strong enough to hold it with one.
"Are you feeling okay?"
I drink the glass of water, tasting every bit as I have never drunk it before.
"I....How?" How did I get here? I ask.
Well, you passed out in the parking by the door, you were all sweaty and your heart almost stooped.
"My phone? Where...Where is my phone?"
I get up and place the glass of water on the table beside me and I look search around for my phone.
"Woah Woah, Ms May, please sit down." You should be resting.
"I need my phone. I need to check on Nat!" I say in a slightly louder voice.
"There wasn't any type of device around you when I found you, Ms May."
"There has to be! She could be in trouble, He could. He will..."
Hey, hey...Ethan gets up and makes his path to me. He grabs both my shoulders with a hint of touch so that I won't feel like I am being attacked again. He looks into my eyes, which was making me calm in his grasp. He moves a little closer to me and cups one of my cheeks with his hand.
"No one is going to hurt you or anyone else. Not on my watch, okay?" Tell me where you live and I'll drive you there. But I need you to stay calm, Okay?
"Okay, okay. I am calm." I say.
"Let me just grab my keys." I nod as I watch him go away into the living room.
He walks out of the mysterious corridor with a leather jacket in his hand.
"Here, you can wear this. It will keep you warm," Ethan suggests.
"What about my own?" I ask.
"There wasn't any."
I look at him in confusion as he places his hand on my back, smoothly guiding me to his parking into the car.
He opens the door for me to sit and goes around to the driver's seat.
"Are you comfortable?"
"Yes.. Thank you,"
He smiles as he starts his car. It's the first time that I've ever sat in a jaguar. Perks of being a CEO, I guess.
He drives through the city silently, not uttering a single word. He must be a man with an extreme level of patience. It was weird seeing him in a plain grey T-shirt with black jeans. There was something about him that was making me automatically think about him more and more. The way he uniquely represents himself is fascinating. I know a lot of has this type of charm, but there was something else for him. Something that I knew I never felt before.
"Do you need something?" He speaks as I notice I was staring at him.
Another embarrassing moment I have to face. Great. I think to myself.
"Can I use your phone? I just need to call Nat to check if she's okay."
"Of course." He hands me his phone and I instantly start dialling Nat's number.
Four rings and no answer.
"The number you are trying is not..."
"Sh*t!."
I rub my eyes, thinking about the worst-case scenario.
The phone rings.
"Nat?"
"Angie?" What? Where the h*ll are you?
"Oh my god Nat, I'm so so so happy to hear your voice."
"What the h*ll is going on?"
"Listen, I need you to listen, okay?" Just tell me where are you right now?
"I'm driving to your company. Where are you?"
"NO! Go back, please just don't ask questions, I'm gonna tell you everything when I reach home okay?" Please just drive back home!
"How are you going to come?"
"I'm with Mr Cooper. He's driving me, okay? I'll be back soon, I promise."
"Alright, I'm driving back."
She hangs up the phone and I let a deep breath out in relief. I push myself back, resting my back on the seat. At least, one of us is safe tonight.
"Here." Thank you for letting me use your phone.
"It was nothing, Ms May."
"Please, Call me Angelica."
There was a minute of silence between us until finally Ethan broke through.
"Who was that person, Angelica?"
I look at him in surprise as he turns back to me. I never thought I'll say this, but I could see the tension on his face. I wanted to tell him who he was, but I couldn't. I can't.
"Nobody" I reply.
He stops the car at the side of the valley and turns his body towards me.
"Look, I don't know what happened there. All I can feel and see right through your neck is that you were attacked, and since you deny telling me his identity, I can see that you know him."
I look at him like a stranger looking at another. He signs and gazes at me one last time.
"I can help you, Angelica, He slides one of his hands into mine, caressing my skin with his thumb."
"Please, Let me help you," He comforts me.
"You can't," I say.
"And why is that?"
"Because if I let you help me."
"He'll know."
