Damien's pov
“How much longer?!” I asked, my Lycan pushing to be let out. I couldn't stand it any longer, I had to get out of this tin can!
I hated small spaces, I hated feeling trapped and right now, I couldn't even breathe!
“About thirty minutes my King” Lucien, my childhood friend and beta snickered, amused at my inability to stay in a car longer than five minutes without wanting to trash it.
“I'm glad my discomfort pleases you” I grunted, breathing deeply, as if the action would calm my Lycan but no, he was getting angrier by the second.
“I enjoy every second of your misery” he said with a wicked smile, his eyes not once leaving the document he'd been looking at for the past hour.
“Find anything interesting yet?” I asked, hoping to take my mind off the trapped feeling that was slowly driving me mad.
“Seems the young Alpha may have Lycan DNA, and if these scores haven't been altered, it's more than likely his Lycan gene is dormant but definitely there” he said, handing the document over.
It seemed there was a full blooded Lycan in his family tree, his great grandmother to be precise.
“Is he getting an invitation to the inner circle?” Lucien asked and I stayed quiet for a moment.
He definitely showed promise, with the right training, his Lycan could fully emerge but there'd been too many disappointments already.
“No, let's just keep an eye on him. If he succeeds in awakening his Lycan, he can join us but until then, watch him closely” I said, handing the document back.
Ever since the Kingdom lost its royal cabinet, finding Lycans closely related to the fallen families has been a secret mission of the crown and the council.
We haven't had much luck in the last four years but hopefully this young Alpha is what we're looking for.
I laid my head back and closed my eyes, trying to calm my agitated Lycan that wouldn't stop pacing.
“I get that you don't like small spaces but you need to keep cool and stop pacing! You're giving me a bloody headache” I said, hoping the dumb oaf will settle down.
He growled at me but said nothing and just kept pacing, making me wonder what his problem was.
A thought that had my heart racing zipped through my mind but I refused to entertain it.
Its not that I'd lost hope, six years is just a long time to search for my mate and not find her.
I didn't want to get my hopes up, even though I knew this was different, it wasn't just the car ride that had Roman this worked up.
I could feel it, the subtle way my skin was vibrating at the thought of my other half told me I wouldn't be sleeping alone tonight but I couldn't let myself fall down that path again.
If it happens then thank Goddess but I wouldn't let myself hope, not this time.
“What do you think about the merge of Silverlake and Bloodmoon?” Lucien asked, taking me away from my thoughts.
“It's a power move for sure but they've never given us problems, let's just wait and see” I said, having thought about it enough times to give me a headache.
It had taken three years to successfully take the Kingdom back from the witches after the King and his family had fallen.
And during that fight, so many of the royal families fell as well.
My family was one of the three to survive and my father was elected to be King by the remaining families and the council.
I was fourteen years old when my parents were poisoned and the other two families slaughtered as a last ditch effort to bring the Kingdom to its knees but the witches were caught and executed their coven burnt to the ground.
Being the last Lycan Alpha, I was crowned King at fifteen and so began my reign.
Many Alphas thought that I wasn't fit to rule, that I was too young and inexperienced so they tried to stage a coup but I quickly squashed their little act of defiance.
I wasn't just a Lycan, one thing the public didn't known about the royal families was that we weren't just normal Lycans.
Lycans are stronger than normal wolves, faster too their strength equivalent to that of a werewolf Alpha but royal Lycans were blessed by the Goddess with power ten times the strength of a normal Alpha.
Plus having merged all the packs of the fallen families, my pack was the biggest and strongest in the Kingdom, with a military force none of the packs could challenge.
That was almost ten years ago but I still watch these packs closely, I had to make sure that a civil war wouldn't break out because of some power hungry Alphas.
“We're here” Lucien said and I opened my eyes and sat straight.
Roman on the other hand began howling as my strong sense of smell picked up a sweetness in the air.
“She's here!” Roman growled in excitement and I couldn't pretend anymore. The excitement was too much to keep down.
My foot tapped rapidly against the floor of the car and my beta turned to look at me with caution.
“Please don't shift, we're almost there, the pack house is literally right there!” He said but I wasn't hearing him, I needed to get out of this car and find my beloved.
“Shut up Lucien!” It came out as a growl, and my claws were itching to come out, I was slowly losing control.
I closed my eyes and took deep breaths, trying to distract myself but it wasn't working, the scent was getting stronger and I was getting more agitated.
It was finally happening, just when I was about to give up hope.
I've been waiting for this moment since I turned eighteen! I've been searching for six years and today, I would finally have her.
“Don't rip anyone's head off while we're here, please!” Lucien pleaded as the car came to a stop.
I didn't care to listen to him, I had my mate on my mind and yes, I would rip anyone who tried anything apart!
I quickly stepped out, fighting back the urge to go find my mate.
Being the King, I had to conduct myself a certain way and barreling my way into their home wasn't a very Kingly thing to do.
I had to be patient for just a little bit longer, the search was over, I finally found her… I just had to focus on not burning any bridges with her pack.
“Your majesty! It's a pleasure to have his highness visit our humble pack” Alpha Thomas said with a small bow and I acknowledge him with a nod.
“Pleasure’s all mine” I said as I took in everyone who had come out to welcome us, noting the tired look on the young Alpha's face.
Looks like someone had a rough night.
Each was introduced by name but I couldn't focus on anything other than making my way inside the house.
“Lunch will be served shortly, how about we go inside, I'm sure his majesty is quite tired after such a long journey” the Luna said, making me pay attention to her at the mention of going inside.
“Yes please, it's been such a long trip” Lucien said and we were guided inside.
It was as if someone had thrown something of hers right at my face, that's how strong her scent hit me.
Like she had been running around the entire house but I knew it was just my stronger than normal senses.
“Jackson will escort to your rooms your majesty” the Alpha said, one of the younger men, a beta I think, stepping forward to lead the way.
My body stood rigid as Lucien and the rest of my convoy followed the boy, making everyone give me strange looks.
I knew what was expected of me but I just couldn't bring myself to go in the opposite direction of where my mate's scent was calling me to.
“Excuse me” I said and turned the other way, allowing my nose to lead me to the woman I'd spent the last six years searching for.
“My King?” Came Lucien’s voice as he trailed behind me.
“Damien what are you doing?!” He whisper yelled once he was close enough so the others wouldn't hear.
“Mind your business and stay out of my way!” I growled, no even bothering to hold Roman back.
“Woah!” He exclaimed as my aura hit him with zero restraint, causing him to put some distance between us.
I was walking so fast I could hear the ones behind me sprinting to keep up with me, probably wondering what had gotten into me and hoping it didn't mean anything bad for them.
I would have laughed at the thought if I wasn't in such a hurry.
My search led me to what looked like the pack kitchen, and feeling her so close only made me increase my speed.
Walking inside, I stood by the entrance, my eyes scanning over the shocked faces until one caught my attention and time froze.
Eyes closed with her cute little button nose in the air, breathing in deeply. Her skin was pale and looked so soft my hands were itching to touch her.
Then, she opened her eyes and they instantly found mine. Everyone disappeared and she and I were the only ones left in the room.
Her eyes, a vibrant purple colour captivating my sheer soul. I knew then that this woman would only have to look at me and I would give her the world.
And as beautiful as those almond shaped eyes were, they also spoke, so loud and yet only I could hear.
My heart beat so loud and fast, I swear I couldn't hear anything else. I felt like I couldn't breathe as I watched all those emotions swimming in her eyes.
Shock, lust and maybe admiration but why fear? Why was she afraid?
Was it me? Was she afraid of me?
I took a step towards her, startling her a little but she didn't make another move and I took it as permission to approach.
I stopped only when I was standing in front of her, looking down at her beautiful eyes as her long white hair frame her flawless face.
“You're my… mate?” Her velvety voice questioned and I couldn't help the growl that ripped out of me, hearing her voice made my blood rush.
“And you're mine” I growled lowly but I knew everyone in there had heard me because their gasps made me remember we weren't alone.
“You want me?” Her question made me frown, why the hell would she even ask me that.
“With every fibre of my being” I said, finally bringing my hand up to touch her face.
Warmth rushed through my body the second I made contact.
She closed her eyes and melted into my hand, a soft moan leaving her lips as she enjoyed the contact.
“That's not possible! She already has a mate!” Someone growled from behind me, filling me with a rage that burnt every last string of sense my mind was capable of.
“She's ours alone! Kill anyone who dares even think about her!!” Roman roared, the growl that ripped out of my chest making everyone cower and step back.
“No! He didn't mean that, it was a joke!” Lucien screamed when I turned around, jumping in front of the young Alpha.
“What did you say boy?!” I asked, my aura leaking furiously almost everyone was struggling to keep standing.
“Damien, we didn't come here to spill any blood!” Lucien's panicked voice did nothing to quell my anger.
He didn't answer, only whimpered and hung his head in submission. I growled, wanting to teach him a lesson but I heard the most amazing thing just as I was about to make my way to him.
“Damien” the sound of my name rolling off of her tongue so sweetly diffused all the rage I was feeling.
I returned my gaze to her and melted as those beautiful eyes trained on me.
Yeah, she could definitely have the world!
