The manager saw me get in and immediately understood.
He glared at me furiously.
I ignored him.

He'd been covering for that pair. Sure, it was for the hotel, but where was his basic decency?
The officer who had spoken looked at me, understanding dawning.
"You're the one who called?"
"Yes."
He seemed about to ask more, but the elevator dinged on the 5th floor.
Following the police out, Harper and I deliberately went the other way.

We could loop around.
Let the cops get the door open first.
The two security guards saw the police and immediately stepped aside.
The police knocked. No answer.

An officer gestured for the manager to use the key card.
He didn't hesitate, swiping it.
The door clicked open.
In that instant, I saw Harper's eyes go wild.
She charged in ahead of the cops!
Worried she'd do something stupid, I rushed in after her.
The officers probably couldn't believe their eyes: two figures shot past them like arrows.
They hurried in after us.
Suddenly, the standard king room felt crowded.
But that didn't slow Harper down.
She went straight for the other woman's hair, slapping her several times.
The jerk moved to protect his fling, and Harper started clawing at him.
The female officer immediately pulled Harper back, holding her while looking at me in disbelief.
"Is she always this… proactive?"
Leo wasn't idle either. He was right behind Harper with the camera.
Gotta say, the gimbal stabilization was fantastic. Not a shaky frame in the fight scene.
Their little performance left me, the actual victim, just standing there.
Finally, the police got Harper under control.
She still seemed amped up, her half-night of pent-up rage not fully vented.
"Any more of that and we'll have to take you in."
Only then did Harper stop, tossing her hair and walking over to me.
"All of you, step outside. We need to investigate the suspected solicitation."
We didn't argue with the police. The few of us filed out of room 503.
That's when we heard a clattering sound from the stairwell.
In the middle of the night, why were so many people running downstairs?
