KIAN'S POV
"She really agreed to come back to us?" I ask still astrouded. I don't know if I should call it a miracle or a mystery. I don't believe in miracles.
"Don't get ahead of yourself. She simply had nowhere else to go. Let's not romanticize the situation." Reagan sadly corrects.
Of course she didn't come back to be with us after we rudely rejected her twice. How could she possibly accept coming back here after all that we had put her through? She had shown us unwavering love despite our flaws, and yet we turned our backs on her when she needed us the most. Now, we are at a loss as to how to mend everything back to how it was supposed to be.
"Well, at least we have the chance and time to apologize for our mistakes," I say.
"Do you really expect her to forgive you?" Aleric scoffs.
"No of course. I was most rude to her." I admit. "I am, quite literally, her worst enemy. But that won't stop me from trying. We owe her an apology first, or else she'll misunderstand our intentions."
"She never got to see the side of us that she deserved to see, the decent and kind side," Reagan adds.
"How will you even begin to apologize for the kind of wrongs we've done to her? And we all know that she cannot be enticed by our wealth." Aleric questions.
"Then we need to figure out what interests her," Reagan suggests.
"We can use the crown to heal her," I propose and the room falls silent as my brothers contemplate the idea. It will be be a small gesture of appreciation to the suffering she endured because of our mistakes, but it can be a starting point to earn back her trust.
"I agree. We may not be able to fully make amends for our mistakes, but using the crown to heal her might earn us a bit of her forgiveness," Aleric nods in agreement, as does Reagan.
We are determined to make things right, if only there was a way to erase everything that had happened and start anew.
"I will go check on her on my way to my chambers," I announce rising from my seat. She had requested a room far away from our residence, and it's dangerous for her to be alone.
"Be nice," Aleric cautions, his voice filled with concern.
I nod before striding out of the chamber.
HELLEN'S POV
Non-royals are never granted the privilege to sleep or stay within the main palace, especially lowly humans. However, mere hours after the alpha kings brought their human mate back, they gave her one of the grandest and most exquisite quarters in the entire palace.
"The maids were instructed to adorn her chambers with the finest furniture, art, dresses, and jewelry," Asher tells with a pitiful expression.
They seem so eager to earn her love and trust back, like the useless thing can add anything to their perfection or name.
I understand that they are trying to please her so that she can heal them. But did they have to give her a royal room? It's not like they are married already. She shouldn't even stay in this house.
It's such a sweet gesture, and I can't help but feel jealous. They never gave me such, even when they believed I had fully lifted their curse. I wonder how far they will take this and for how long. Can you imagine that lowly human becoming the alpha king's wife and queen?
"Are you certain you still wish to remain here, my lady?" Asher inquires.
I, too, am beginning to question whether the love I hold for them is worth the daily humiliation I endure by staying here.
How can I feel valued when their human mate shows back up one day and takes my place? Everyone in the palace including servants had already started to treat me as their queen the past few days. I wonder if they'll still do the same after what happened today or after they see their kings back with their human mate.
Obviously I am confident that the kings are just still using her, she is that naive and stupid. But I wonder how long they are willing to host her in their palace anyway? Hope not long because just hearing that she is around again alone disgusts me.
"What do you think I should do?" I ask Asher. She is very good at making plans.
"I heard from the servants that she asked to be given a room farthest from the alpha king's residence," Asher informs. "Maybe she doesn't even want them anymore and only came back to them because she didn't have anywhere else to go."
Is she asking me to talk to the human, see if she really plans to stay?
"That isn't a solution. If she doesn't want them back now, it's because she is still feeling hurt," I disagree. "Once she forgets, I'll have a lot of trouble keeping her from them."
"Then make a deal with her while she's still angry at them," Asher suggests. "It's not like you will lose anything by talking to her first."
Yes, I won't lose anything. If she promises to reject them, leave this palace, and never come back, then I guess I won't have to do anything terrible to her.
I was planning on remaining in my room for sometime so that everyone will forget what I did but I guess I'll have to go out there.
I'll try to persuade her to leave, just to be sure there isn't a better way of resolving this that I haven't tried before engaging in brutal solutions.
If I am not worried of how the kings would react if I snapped her neck, I would be carrying her head in my hands.
ELLA'S POV
The room I was given is very spacious and extraordinarily lavish, but the shimmering gold doesn't take away the constant worry and fear. No amount of luxury can give you internal peace when your heart is burning with worries. I have only four days left to steal the crown and deliver it to alpha Ethan. Not much time, I at least got to find where the crown is being kept by tomorrow night.
I'll also have to spend the nights here with my eyes open as I can't stop feeling like being here is dangerous. Princess Hellen already tried to kill me once and I am not stupid to think that she won't try again.
King Reagan did promise that she won't be a problem to me again but I know better. She was their preferred future Queen. I am only here because they found out that she couldn't lift their curse.
I wonder how she feels right now, she would have given anything to sleep in an incredible little heaven like this. She must be devastated, because if she succeeded no woman would have been greater than her. She would be the beloved wife of the powerful alpha Kings. But somehow things fell apart when she least expected. I really wonder how they found out the curse was still there since she seemed quite in control of the situation.
As I open the grand closet tucked in the corner of the room, I'm greeted by a lavish array of dresses, fur coats, and shoes, each pair more exquisite than the last. I can't help smiling.
Not that I would care if they looked less impressive. I am here because of that crown, not the luxury. I however can't deny that the idea of putting on a seemly better dress will make me feel a little better. It may not solve my problems, but it will offer a fleeting sense of comfort.
I enter the bathroom and fill the oversized tub with warm water. Shedding my loose dress, I gingerly lower myself in. I have never been in a hot tub in my whole life. The water, the soothing aroma, all feels like a slice of heaven. But I cant enjoy all this while knowing that I am unwelcome here.
I immediately step out after I am done and struggle to dress myself with one hand still immobilized in a sling. Eventually, I settle for wrapping a towel around my body.
I step back into the bedroom then jump back when I see a figure standing in front of the full length mirror.
"Sorry if I scared you." princess Hellen says taking off the golden necklace she was trying on. She doesn't sound sorry at all.
She no longer looks like the refined, elegant princess I remember. She looks wretched despite being in a beautiful dress. The layers of makeup she has on that does little to conceal the bruises marring her face and neck. She looks like a lost, angry woman. What happened to her?
"Get the hell out of my room!" I snarl and A smirk curves on her lips as she drops the necklace and makes her way to me.
"Or what?" she growls moving even closer until our toes are almost touching. "Would you dare fight me? Or will you scream like a coward for them to come save you?"
Did she just threaten me?
Fighting her would be a bad idea obviously. There isn't much I can do to throw her out. She has a wolf and that means I stand no chance of winning if we fight.
I allowed her to bully me before, when I was her servant, I am not letting it happen again.
"What do you think my mates will do to you if you fight me? I can only imagine what they will think of you considering they already know you tried to kill me." I say. She shakes her head and steps back.
"I came so we could talk. I want us to resolve our issues diplomatically, no need to shout." She replies now calmly.
Is she crazy? She dared try to kill me and now she wants to talk.
"Really? You want to resolve issues? Why don't we start with the issue about you trying to kill me?" She sighs in frustration.
"I did it because you don't belong here, or with any of the kings," she mutters. "They don't love you, and I'm sure you don't love them anymore either. You should leave."
Wow, now I see why she wants to talk. Being with my mates is all that she seems to think of. This is my opportunity to revenge.
"Even if I don't like them, I will stay. I will be with them just to piss you off!"
She glances at me like she is imagining a million ways she can have me dead. She then laughs maniacally and steps closer.
"You would be with people who hurt you just to keep them and I apart? You're such a jealous loser!"
"You tried to kill me just because I am their mate, only the devil can be that envious." I fire back.
"I'll pay you handsomely to forgive me for trying to kill you. I can also pay you to reject them and leave this kingdom. Isn't that better than waiting for them to break your little heart again ?" She proposes with a hint of desperation in her voice.
She's willing to pay me to leave!
That's now sounds enticing, I'll have nowhere to go after I deliver that crown to alpha Ethan, I'll need a huge sum to run and start life far away from here.
Before I can respond, the door swings open abruptly, and king Kian comes in, His countenance contorting into a mask of fury upon seeing Helen.
