"Patient lost significant blood, but arrived just in time. Wound is sutured well. Observation for 48 hours. He needs rest and recovery."
The doctor left. I stood to go, colliding head-on with a girl.
She was running and couldn't stop in time.
I hit the floor hard. Pain shot through me. I curled up, immobilized.
Mom, ever fierce, launched into the girl,
"Hey! Watch where you're going! You hurt my daughter, I'll sue you into oblivion!"
Sarah helped me sit down.
The girl apologized profusely,
"I'm so sorry! I didn't see you! I'm rushing to find someone—"
Her voice was thick with tears.
Sarah froze, "Ms. Vivian?"
"Sarah! Where is he? How is Liam? Take me to him!"
I looked up. The girl's pretty face clicked – she was the one clinging to Liam at the bar.
Sarah glanced nervously between me and the girl.
Mom eyed the girl's designer outfit (Chanel suit).
"Here to see my future son-in-law?" she asked carefully, "I haven't seen you before. Are you Liam's cousin?"
"I... I'm not—"
"Then who are you?"
Silence hung heavy.
My back screamed. My heart felt dead.
This chaos was suffocating.
I forced myself up, ready to bolt.
"Sophie! Where are you going? You haven't seen Liam yet!"
I turned back, voice icy, "He's not dead. I can leave now."
The girl – Vivian – finally saw my face clearly.
Her eyes widened in shock.
She knew me.
"Shut your mouth! Don't jinx it! Especially not in front of... an outsider!"
I looked straight at the girl, smiling grimly,
"Mom, she's not outsider."
"She's the girl kissing with Liam at the bar."
